Paleo f(x) Review and Exciting News from the CaveGirl!

image

We are finally settled back in after a very exciting trip to Austin for Paleo f(x). Now that we are back home, we wanted to share some highlights of our trip!

The week leading up to Paleo f(x) had the Primal Life Organics team in overdrive. Despite the fact that we were making large batches of our products to take with us on the trip, designing our display, packing everything, and still making sure all of our orders were made fresh and shipped out, we somehow managed to create three new hair products!

We were very excited to take these new products to Paleo f(x), where we gave them to a few Paleo celebrities! So far, we have gotten good feedback and can’t wait to get these new hair products (100% Paleo of course!) to your doors too! Keep an eye out for the official release of our Primal Sea Salt Spray, Hair Spray, and Hair Serum within the next couple of weeks.

Okay, okay! I know, you want to hear all of the good stuff like who we met, what we loved, and what we learned.

On Thursday Night- I kicked off the event by attending the Pecha Kucha soiree that featured some tasty (and 100% Paleo) Hors d’oerves from Caveman Cafeteria.  Favorites were the Rock Shrimp Ceviche Coconut-Lime Marinade, Candied Bacon House Made with Organic Honey and Stuffed Artichoke Hearts Bruschetta!  Drinks for the evening were from Live Soda Kombucha and my new favorite brew, O mission- gluten free and totally worth it!  The Pale Ale is this Cave Girl’s favorite!  I’m definitely going to enjoy a few of these this summer!!

I was lucky enough to sit next to Elizabeth and Cameron, with EPIC Bars- do not hesitate to try the new Lamb bars!  I thought the Bison and Turkey were great- the Lamb is even better!  I also got to meet Amy Kubal, a Registered “Paleo” Dietitian and the ring leader of Robb Wolfe’s RD consulting team.  Amy has an amazing story to tell about her relationship with food, which you can read here.  It was a “don’t miss” event that I recommend if you get the opportunity to attend Paleo f(x) next year.

The PLO booth kept us very busy, but we were lucky to have some friends stop by and say hello. Now it’s time for what we loved! There were so many amazing vendors there. Not only were the actual vendors great, but their products were also equally great. We were right across from Vital Proteins. You seriously have to check their pasture-raised bovine collagen & gelatin out, I’ve been adding it to my water for a week now and I love it!

The best part was that the majority of the vendors were food related. We gorged ourselves and everything was delicious but we’d like to share our top three. Kosmic Kombucha, this delicious drink is only available in Texas for now, but we can’t wait to have their unique flavors in our city. If you happen to be in Austin, be sure to pick up a few bottles next time you are at Wholefoods. Epic Bar, their grass-fed protein bars were so tasty and they even had a new flavor: Lamb! We couldn’t get enough of these bars. Now that I’m stocked up on them, I’ve enjoyed them in omelets, as an afternoon snack and my kids love them too! We met David from Paleo on the Go, these prepared-for-you meals are Paleo, delivered to your door and can be stored frozen until needed.

The event was a huge success for Primal Life Organics.  We were able to come face-to-face with many Primal Lifers and heard first hand how much PLO is LOVED- always so great to hear!!  We also reached hundreds that did not know we existed.  We made new friends, and new customers!  We met so many web-lebrities that support and love Primal Life Organics: Mark Sisson (just love him more in person!), Sarah Ballantyne (the Paleo Mom), Liz Wolfe (the Skintervention Guide, RealFoodLiz), Cain and Tammy Credicott (Paleo Magazine), Hayley and Bill (Primal Palate), Stacy and Matt (Paleo Parents), Arsey Vartanian (Rubies and Radishes),  Tonja and Clare (Flame to Fork) and Summer and Sara (Whole9 Canada- check them out if you have any problems with acne or breakouts!) and so many more!!  We learned that Primal Colors Makeup is a HUGE hit and many women fell in love with our philosophy, ingredients and colors as we performed demonstration after demonstration.  It was such an emotionally moving event and I am so impressed with how incredibly powerful this movement is!

We came away from this event with one thing we are certain of: The Paleo lifestyle truly does contribute to a happy, healthy and fulfilled life. All of the people we met were proof that this is not just a diet fad.

Once again, a big shout out to all of you that stopped by our booth to check out our products and share your stories with us, this honestly was the very best part of the whole event. All of the planning and hard work was worth the experience and really seeing in person how our products have impacted your lives. You all are awesome and we appreciate you.

We Promised EXCITING News… from the CaveGirl (that’s me, Trina Felber) herself: We are very excited to announce that CaveGirl Skincare (this Blog) will be expanding our horizons- and we will be adding new writers to our staff.  No longer will this just be about skincare — it will be CaveGirl Skincare and more!  These fresh new faces have a lot to offer, new insight into this Paleo/Primal lifestyle with fun new recipes- possibly even to include your pet, fashion (a CaveGirl wants to be hip too!), workout options (not just crossfit- stay well rounded to keep incredibly healthy), reviews about new Paleo/Primal/Gluten free products and many more fun, creative and explosive topics!  Stay tuned and be sure to sign up for our blog to be a part of this exciting change!

Acne: More Adults Silently Suffer Than You Think

I know many suffer from acne, I did until I fixed my diet (Paleo), supplementation AND my skincare.  Paleo skincare has definitely helped resolve my breakout issues.  For more information from Whole9 about acne, causes and treatments, see this great article and video.

The Purely Primal Skincare Guide by Liz Wolfe, Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, is another great resource that will guide you through the process of healing your gut via foods, supplements and numerous dietary and skincare techniques.  Leaky gut, inflammatory foods, hormonal imbalances, food sensitivities and nutritional deficiencies, as well as the toxic ingredients in commercial skincare, can be causes of acne.

Did You Know: Benzoyl Peroxide, widely used in acne products is a toxic ingredient?? It is also a known skin irritant and can actually CAUSE acne in some people.  Furthermore, the MSDS states benzoyl peroxide is a  possible tumor promoter and may act as a mutagen and produce DNA damage (those pregnant should definitely AVOID benzoyl peroxide).  It is toxic by inhalation and an irritant to the eyes, skin and respiratory tract.  Benzoyl peroxide is also tested on animals!

The Purely Primal Skincare Guide directly links you to the supplements and products she recommends.  You can find The Purely Primal Skincare Guide here: http://bit.ly/WCXWdJ

Benzoyl Peroxide has been linked to cancer for a number of years and many research journal entries state  “benzoyl peroxide is a free radical-generating skin tumor promoting agent.”  Performing a word search of the words “benzoyl peroxide cancer” in PubMed in the National Library of Medicine produces 102 articles from medical publications dealing with research aspects of BP and cancer.  About two-thirds of the research supports linkage between BP and skin cancer.

“In 1995 the FDA changed benzoyl peroxide from a Category I (safe) to a Category III (safety is uncertain) ingredient and stated this action (56 FR 37622) was based on new information that raised a safety concern regarding benzoyl peroxide as a tumor promoter in mice…”  Additionally the FDA charged manufacturers with the responsibility of providing this information to consumers so they could make educated decisions.  Many manufacturers and product marketers have not provided this information so consumers can be advised of the potential dangers.
