Toothpowder or Toothpaste?

When strolling down the dental care aisle, what’s taking up a majority of the section? Toothpaste. What’s an alternative that some people still do not even know exists? Toothpowder. Being that these two options are available for people, the notorious question arouses: is it better to use toothpowder or toothpaste?

To put it simply, it’s really a personal choice; but only when using certain brands. Let’s start by discussing toothpaste. On the bright side, it is easy to use and rather convenient. It of course cleanses and polishes the teeth. Finally, the American Dental Association claims that the fluoride found in toothpaste helps strengthen the teeth and helps reduce cavities. But wait… fluoride is poisonous! If swallowed, it is not at all healthy for your body. It can cause major stomach pains, nausea and vomiting. It is crucial one contacts their dentist as well as the poison control hotline to be treated correctly. If children between the ages of 3 to 8 are to swallow toothpaste, it could lead to dental fluorosis. This is a condition that brings changes in the appearance of the child’s tooth enamel.

Switching gears and focusing on the bad side of using toothpaste – first being that it contains fluoride. But also, because it contains glycerin. This will actually leave a film on the teeth which prevents them from remineralization. Why is the remineralization of your teeth so important? The plaque that forms on teeth actually contains acids that removes the minerals from your enamel. This will then lead to erosion causing tiny holes to form in the enamel.

Toothpowder has been around for a very, very long time. Actually, it has been proven to date as far back as 5000 BC! Its existence has been suppressed due to toothpaste being invented and taking over the market. There are some very positive things to address about toothpowder. First, toothpowder can actually effectively remove plaque better than toothpaste can. More time than less, toothpowders are made with natural and organic ingredients (hint hint: Primal Life Organics Dirty Mouth Toothpowder). Also, due to them usually being natural and organic, they do not contain fluoride. This means they are non-toxic and much safer for children to use.

There are a couple down sides to toothpowder. It’s a little less convenient. Sometimes it can get messy – more so when the kiddos use it – making it tough to clean. Sometimes, depending on the process of breaking down the ingredients and mixing it, there can be an off-feeling texture in your mouth after use.

So, you’re wondering what the best product to use is, right? As mentioned before, it’s a personal choice. Only when you are purchasing wisely, though. Primal Life Organics understands there’s a personal preference between toothpaste and toothpowder. We also understand children will be using these products, too so it only makes sense to ensure they are safe. Our Dirty Mouth Toothpaste does not contain synthetic additives, preservatives, foaming agents, colors, artificial flavors, fluoride, carrageenan, triclosan, nor SLS. It does contain colloidal silver, bentonite clay, white kaolin clay, baking soda, French green clay, and organic essential oils. Our toothpowder contains the same ingredients as the toothpaste except for colloidal silver. Wondering why there’s so much clay? Clay is actually a fantastic cleanser, and has a high mineral content making great to ensure your enamel gets help during the remineralization process. The white kaolin clay helps whiten and polish the teeth, too! Being that both options are natural, safe if swallowed and won’t harm the body, it gives you the power to choose between toothpaste and toothpowder!
