Clean Beauty Series: Lesson #3

Lately, I have been secretly asking people to tell me about their skin… I want to understand what most women between the ages of 20-110 are dealing with.

The overwhelming response has been “my skin is so sensitive!”
There it was… sensitive skin.

I remember the days when my skin was “sensitive”.
If this sounds like you, keep reading…

Ninety-nine percent of the time, it’s something with drying alcohol, water-based skincare with harsh preservatives, emulsifiers, thickeners, and fillers.

I have to tell them, "You’ve just spent years of using really badly formulated products, which is like years and years of eating junk food. Your skin isn’t sensitive, your skin barrier is just really weak from the products you are using.”

If you’re experiencing dry, flaky skin, over-oiliness, acne, redness, sensitivity, or seeing signs of premature aging, it may be because your skin’s pH is out of whack, and/or because the crucial lipid barrier has been stripped away by abrasive products, drying ingredients and chemicals.

This ultimately impairs your skin’s ability to repair itself!

I love to get to the root cause of the issue so you can move on with a Beautiful Skin Day… because when you treat your skin gently and nourish it with Skin-Food, you can heal and repair your skin very quickly.

First, your cleanser could be the main culprit… face cleansers that contain harsh surfactants (aka detergent molecules), can make it very challenging for your skin to hold onto its optimal pH.

Consequently, when you wash with harsh cleansers, you will experience more symptoms like stinging, redness, and dryness. By stripping your skin, you’re compromising your skin’s ability to protect itself, repair itself, and trap moisture.

You will also disrupt your skin microbiome. When your microbiome is out of balance, it opens the door to inflammatory skin disorders including psoriasis, eczema, acne, premature aging, and even itching, burning, stinging skin that feels uncomfortable and becomes unpredictably reactive to a wide array of products.

This is because when your skin barrier is not intact, it is no longer preventing allergens and irritants from entering the skin. If your moisturizer is water-based, you are making your skin condition worse.

A little TLC goes a long way… food is your friend and medicine for healing your body, right?  Then why not put that medicine on your skin.  Skin-Food is the solution to sensitive skin.
